Santorini Dreaming| Where to Stay

When it came to booking our accommodation for our wedding week we were inundated with several options from staying on the western edge of the island in Imerovigli, Fira or Oia to staying at the beach towns of Kamari or Perissa.

With over 100 guests joining us for our special day I decided to stay at 3 different hotels. Two of the three hotels were situated in the beach town of Kamari offering family friendly restaurants, bars and a relaxing beach. The other hotel was located in the romantic town of Imerovigli.

Regina Mare

Regina Mare in Imerovigli lies just between the two main towns of Oia and Fira. Imerovigli is a much quieter area of Santorini with views of the magical sunsets overlooking the Caldera. I spent the night before our wedding and our wedding night at the deluxe suite located on the highest level of the hotel. Check in was swift, and I was welcomed with wine and a bowl of fruits upon arrival. The room is very spacious with a private balcony and outdoor hot tub overlooking the Aegean Sea.

We absolutely loved our stay here. The tranquil space and romantic scenery worked perfectly for getting ready. The service was warm and personal; the team at the hotel were very attentive on our wedding morning providing a personal service. Regina Mare was the perfect spot to privately enjoy the scenic views whilst getting ready for my groom. Our videographer and photographer captured all the scenic first look moments at Regina Mare. I cannot wait to see the professional photographs (6weeks and counting)!

The views from our private Jacuzzi were calming and surreal, I managed to have a nice soak on our wedding morning before the arrival of my bridesmaids.

I’m still lusting over the mouth-watering breakfast palette, provided for us on our private balcony.

We were surprised to meet this thoughtful gift from the hotel staff on our wedding night.

Aegean Plaza

Located just a few minutes drive away from the airport. The Aegean Plaza offers a calming and relaxing atmosphere near the beach promenade of Kamari. Their pristine white architectural building creates an incredibly luxurious aesthetic.

The rooms are very stylish and comfortable. From the Cycladic exterior to the calming interior I cannot fault this hotel. Perfect for any member of the family, especially a wedding party. We spent two nights at this beautiful hotel before checking into our next hotel…

Tamarix Del Mar

With just a few minutes walk away from the black sand beach of Kamari, Tamarix Del Mar boasts a special unique character. Stepping out onto the hotel grounds from reception your eyes are drawn to the extravagant architectural display of the Greek Cycladic architecture, with bougainvillea plants clambering over the stone details of the building and the facet of the blue doors your made to feel at home! Each hotel room felt like a separate house within a small community overlooking the relaxing pool. A perfect hotel for our family and friends.

As you walk away from the pool into the private spa area your eyes are met with the beautiful paintings of dolphins and sea creatures. The calming blue and purple lighting allows your mind to drift afar. The spa area offers an indoor pool, massage table, sauna and very clean shower room facilities. There’s a small work out area tucked away behind the pool perfect for burning away all those calories from the vast array of restaurants on the sea front.

Staff at Tamarix were great and made us feel at home from the second we arrived (we were greeted with a welcome cocktail each). They helped us with our luggage, arranged taxis for us and ensured we had what we needed for our stay.

Each room at the hotel offered many personalised features from a private hot tub, split rooms, lounge areas and fully equipped mini kitchens. We loved the breakfast at the hotel, each morning we were presented with a different buffet breakfast menu. Our little guests loved the play area offered by the hotel. Perfect for preoccupying their minds after breakfast.

All in all, Tamarix Del Mar was a fantastic place to call home and someplace I think is a great value for what you’re getting in return.

I truly enjoyed staying at all three hotels, I would highly recommend spending a few days in Imerovigli to get a taste of the true Caldera views (what Santorini is truly famous for). Kamari is perfect for cutting back costs in Santorini and ideal for every member of the family. The Western side of Santorini has more steps and windy roads, this part of Santorini is perfect for honeymoons and future brides to be who want the perfect photographic shot on their wedding morning.
